Roccella is a hand-woven rug crafted from a refined blend of linen and sisal, two plant-based fibres selected for their durability and natural character. Its diagonal weave produces subtle contrasts, bringing depth and gentle rhythm to the earthy colour palette. Designed to balance elegance with practicality, Roccella is both tactile and resilient, making it a versatile choice for contemporary interiors, from residential spaces to contract projects.
For designer Marie-Louise Rosholm, material is always the starting point. In Roccella, the composition is reduced to essentials to let the fibres and weave take centre stage. Sisal, admired for its natural sheen and depth of colour, develops a rich lustre when dyed, creating textures and nuances rarely seen in other fibres.
The development of Roccella spans many years and reflects Linie Design’s long-standing collaboration with skilled weavers in India. During a visit in 2009, Rosholm worked directly with artisan workshops to explore early sisal-based designs. Sisal’s challenging nature required experimentation and technical expertise. Originally, Roccella combined wool and sisal, but after careful refinement, it was redesigned to feature exclusively linen and sisal, resulting in a durable, refined, and contemporary rug.
Roccella is available in multiple sizes — 140×200 cm, 170×240 cm, 200×300 cm, and 250×350 cm — and in three colours: Rust, Green, and Grey. The hand-woven technique ensures quality and authenticity, while its understated design allows it to adapt seamlessly to a variety of interiors.
Marie-Louise Rosholm, who graduated from Design School Kolding in 1984 with a background in weaving, is the founder of MLR Studio. With over four decades of experience in clothing, home, and technical textiles, she brings a deep understanding of materiality and craftsmanship, evident in the timeless design of Roccella.
