Playful arcs, painterly stripes, and bold geometries define the ADI Tile collection, a collaboration between designer Annie Downing and Popham Design. Each tile is meticulously handmade by skilled artisans in Marrakech, resulting in four whimsical patterns that can be combined across 20 vibrant colorways to create endlessly shifting compositions. Downing describes the collection as joyful, curated, and slightly cheeky, drawing inspiration from antique textiles, architectural details, and global travels.
Measuring eight inches square, each concrete tile is pressed in a hydraulic mold, air-dried, and left with subtle irregularities that reflect the artisan’s hand. The process produces a soft matte surface that absorbs pigment in rich tones, ranging from saturated blues and greens to earthy neutrals.
Austin-based interior designer Annie Downing has long favored bold concrete tiles, incorporating them into bathroom walls and kitchen islands in her clients’ homes. “I like that they’re imperfect,” she explains. “They patina and evolve over time.” Her collaboration with Popham Design, initiated in 2022, brings these ideas to life. After visiting the brand’s studio in Marrakech, Downing helped develop a first collection featuring four designs—dots, circles, waves, and bars—offered in five vibrant colorways designed for mix-and-match arrangements.
Some motifs echo her wallpaper collection launched the previous fall, while the palette reflects her travels: bright pinks nod to Mexico City, greens honor Marrakech, blues are inspired by Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar, and yellows recall mango lassi in Jaipur. Each tile celebrates the playful intersection of artistry, design, and global influence.
